Universal Plug-and-Play CAR-T Platform Developed at UChicago

Published on: University of Chicago Medical Center

Researchers at the University of Chicago have engineered GA1CAR, a universal CAR-T system that separates tumor recognition from T-cell signaling, allowing therapies to be switched on or redirected using short-lived antibody fragments. This modular “plug-and-play” design enhances safety, enables rapid retargeting, and showed promising tumor-killing effects in animal models of breast and ovarian cancer. The approach could overcome long-standing barriers in solid tumor treatment and serve as a universal cancer immunotherapy platform.
