Between 2004 - 2009, 19 children with neuroblastoma joined a CAR-T clinical trial at Baylor College of Medicine. One of them, a little girl, received the therapy and never needed further treatment. Now, 18 years later, she remains cancer-free. She’s married, had two children, and is living a full life. Her T cells didn’t just eliminate the tumor, they’ve remained active, providing long-term immune surveillance.
This case may be the longest-known remission for any solid tumor patient treated with CAR-T. Spencer Knight calls it a breakthrough moment not just for science, but for hope. Solid tumors have long resisted T cell therapy, but this survivor proves that long-term success is possible.
